Gulf Gate Resort

For you non-smokers, this resort complex will please you as you won’t be opening your door to the waft of stale cigarette smoke from by-gone years.

The apartments are a nice size, featuring one or two bedroom apartments with 1.5 or 2 bathrooms and over 800 square feet living space. You have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, a pull-out couch or Murphy bed in the living room, private balconies, – yep, it sounds better by the minute, considering there is actually a washer and dryer added that so many others don’t have, and yes, wi-fi.

There is a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, exercise facility, grills for barbequing outside, jet skis to rent from the resort, and many restaurants close to the condominium, for those days and evenings you don’t feel like cooking. For people looking for family resorts that are not all inclusive, this is going to provide you with a spacious living area, easy access to the beach, and money saved if you desire by making as many meals as you wish.

This condo complex  is on the beach, i.e. across the street from the beach, at 111 50th Ave. West, St. Pete’s Beach.

Rates: there is a great deal of contrast between renting a one bedroom versus a two bedroom. The one bedroom starts at 75.00 per night and the two bedroom starts at 130.00 per night. They have specials depending on your length of stay, with 15 percent as their top discount for staying over 28 days. Also rates depend on whether you are bay side, or Gulf side, and whether it is high or low season. So during spring break, the one bedroom bay side is suddenly 140 to 170.00 per night, which is hard to swallow considering the contrast from Sept. to December. Oh well, its not personal, it’s just business.

The web site has some excellent photos of various rooms and décor. It’s not luxurious by any means, but it is a huge improvement from some places on the beach for sure. The rooms look nice and definitely spacious.

Ratings: You have to realize these are 40 individually owned units, which are managed on-site. The reason I mention this is that a lot of people have had consistently great experiences and I recommending looking up their units they stayed in. A few people had a really lousy room, badly maintained, and problems with management for the cleaning of it. Since there were so many good reviews, the bad experiences appear to be the exception, but who wants to be the exception when we spend so much money and look forward to an awesome family beach vacation.
